Blue Mountains, Australia

What would make travel in Australia worth the trip? For tourists and residents alike, the breathtaking sites would be the top of mind answer. The Blue Mountain region is one such Australian destination that is simply awe-inspiring.

The Blue Mountains is in New South Wales, Australia bordering the metropolitan area of Sydney. It is located approximately 50 kilometres past the city centre. The highest point is 1,190 metres above sea level. It is situated within a World Heritage area that offers a relaxing environment for both business and leisure travelers.

Look out points such as Govetts Leap and Evans Look Out offers one a view of the jagged cliff face and escarpments. Bushwalks through the Blue Gum Forest, Popes Glen and the Grand Canyon walk are not to be missed.

Travel in this Australian region won’t be complete without a stop at Blackheath Village. A charming town with several country shops, antique stores and art galleries. It stands at the tip of the Great Western Highway. Blackheath is enclosed by two valleys: the Megalong Valley on the west and Grose Valley to the east.

If you plan to travel to Australia specifically to visit this region, a good time to get your Australian visa is in October. That would let you catch the flowering rhododendrons and the Rhododendron Festival on the first weekend of November. April and May are also a good time to travel in Australia’s Blue Mountains for the Food and Wine with Altitude festival.

Accommodations are not a problem for those who travel in Australia for the Blue Mountains. The area offers several cottages, guest homes and boutique hotels available for short or long stays. The place is also known for spa and golf attractions, but are more popular as a romantic escape or a family getaway.

Some singer/songwriters (think Paul Westerberg and Elliott Smith) develop their world-weariness through the unforgiving trials of passing years and the heart-breaking grind of the music business. Others (Van Morrison, Neil Young) seem to have sprung from out of nowhere with the fully formed soul of a life well-lived. Ray LaMontagne belongs with the latter. On this, his debut, LaMontagne has crafte…

The Traveling Wilburys were one of the few supergroups that lived up to their promise, because they didn’t try to. Things started inauspiciously when George Harrison, needing a B-side for a 1988 single, called in friends Jeff Lynne, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, and Roy Orbison for assistance. Two albums later–the second without Orbison, who had passed away shortly after the first was released–the loose…
